Caribbean island? What is creole? Is it a part of Guatemala? Does it really have a reef that rivals the Great Barrier Reef in Australia?
To be honest, I wasn’t planning on going to Belize until Guatemala shut its borders to Mexico. I ended up catching the bus across the border and then taking a ferry to Caye Caulker, an island just off the coast of mainland Belize. I was pleasantly surprised by the switch from Spanish to English (or Creole), and also how different the culture and food was compared to other Latin American countries.
