Costa Rica

Beautiful rainforests, biodiverse fauna and flora, crystal blue waterfalls, dramatic volcanoes… Yes Costa Rica has it all.

Or at least that’s what I heard before going there, ended up driving into a raging fire, and ending up in towns with barbwires and poverty. I spent 10 days here on an adventure I didn’t realise I’d be getting entering the apparently tranquil nation.

Costa Rica at a glance

Costa Rica or ‘the rich coast’ is wedged in between Panama and Nicaragua in Central America, with one side on the Pacific Ocean and the other the Caribbean Sea. It is known for its biodiversity and beautiful landscapes. It has somewhat stayed out of most of the Central American tensions, having no military and is powered by 90%+ renewable energy. It was colonised by the Spanish, then a part of United Provinces of Central America, which it then gained independence in 1848. Its national language is Spanish and its capital city is San Jose.
